Description

Practice Problem: The practice problem of the organization is increased stress among correctional nurses due to staff shortages and increased workload. Stress results in patients receiving less than optimal care. PICOT: The PICOT question is among nurses at a correctional facility: What is the impact of a Palouse mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), compared to current practice, on nurses’ perceived stress in eight weeks? Summary Evidence: Evidence shows that MBSR can reduce stress among correctional nurses. Studies conducted over eight to ten weeks were beneficial. The Palouse MBSR will determine the significance of reducing stress among correctional nurses. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) will provide pre-and post-test results. Outcome: Data analysis illustrated a 7.5 decrease in stress levels compared to the baseline, and the effect size was large. Conclusion: The implication of this project was to implement the mindfulness-based stress reduction program for eight weeks. Next, a baseline stress level was provided to compare with the post-questionnaire. Lastly, the goal was to reduce stress levels after the project.
