Description
Preoperative anxiety is a prevalent issue among parturients undergoing planned cesarean deliveries. This is significant as preprocedural anxiety affects up to 80% of laboring women and has many negative influences on both the surgical experience and maternal outcomes, including increased perception of pain, heightened emotional distress, and reduced satisfaction with care. Traditional pharmacological strategies used to address anxiety are often contraindicated in laboring patients leading to the need for additional adjunct therapies. Identifying solutions to the unique challenges associated with parturients requires innovative solutions that are both effective and adaptable to clinical settings. Advancements in technology have allowed for the introduction of Virtual Reality (VR) in a variety of settings, including in patient care. Virtual reality has a potential role in alleviating preoperative anxiety, reducing intraoperative pain levels, and enhancing patient satisfaction through immersive sensory engagement. This literature review explores the use of VR interventions to reduce anxiety and improve satisfaction in parturients undergoing planned cesarean deliveries.
