Description

Introduction/Background: Postoperative pain and complications such as nausea and vomiting are critical concerns following hip surgeries, often resulting in extended recovery times and increased opioid use. The pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block, a relatively novel regional anesthesia technique, offers promising benefits in managing perioperative pain while minimizing systemic opioid administration. Although PENG blocks are becoming increasingly utilized postoperatively, there is limited data on the outcomes associated with pre-operative administration. Implementing this nerve block in the pre-operative phase may reduce the intensity and incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), facilitate earlier ambulation, and contribute to enhanced recovery protocols.
