Description

The purpose of this quantitative study was to address the gap in research on student retention interventions at the community college level by testing the relationship between intervention and retention of students. The study sought to contribute to a growing field of research focused on community colleges, and provide guidance for leaders at community colleges facing reductions in enrollment and retention of students. A sample was collected from a public two-year community college of first-time students, and requested through the institutional Office of Institutional Research. A binomial regression analysis was selected to measure impact and statistical significance of intervention provided by the institution. Finding statistical significance, the study showed distinctions between prior research focused on university settings and affirmed the need for more research at the community college level. Future research might focus of replication and expansion of covariates while the findings may benefit application of intervention at community colleges.
